Profiles and Settings

Profiles are how TvT keeps everyone's viewing separate: each one has its own watch history, likes, comments, and settings, and a profile marked Kids only sees videos that have been marked kid-friendly. This guide adds a profile and goes through every setting behind Manage profiles.

1. The Who's Watching screen

TvT starts here. Click a profile to sign in; if it has a password, TvT asks for it. Profile settings are an administrator's job, so sign in as one first. You can always get back to this screen from the profile menu in the bottom left corner, under Switch Profile.

2. Adding a profile

Add profile asks for a name. An administrator also gets a Kids mode chip here, which makes the new profile a kid profile right away. Enter creates the profile, Escape cancels.

3. The profile settings

Click Manage profiles, then the profile you want to change. The dialog has everything about that profile:

  • Picture: click Change on the avatar to upload an image from this computer, or Use image URL to point at a picture on the web and apply it. Remove picture goes back to the initial.
  • Profile name.
  • Password: optional. Set one and it is asked whenever someone switches to the profile; leave it empty for no password.
  • Kid profile: only videos marked kid-friendly are visible, and the admin pages are hidden.
  • Time limit: a daily allowance. Pick 1, 2, or 4 hours per day, or type your own (half-hour steps, up to 24). When the allowance runs out for the day, playback stops.
  • Administrator: can manage videos, profiles, and settings. The first profile always stays an administrator.

Save applies the changes the next time the profile is opened. Only administrators can change the Kid profile, Time limit, and Administrator switches; other profiles can edit their own name, picture, and password.

4. What a Kids profile sees

Signed in as the new profile, the library shows only the videos marked kid-friendly, the sidebar lists only the categories that have some, and the profile card goes straight back to the Who's Watching screen instead of opening the admin menu. Videos are marked kid-friendly from Manage Videos, one at a time or in bulk.

Good to know

  • Deleting a profile: in Manage profiles, the red cross on a tile removes it. The first profile and the one you are signed in as cannot be deleted.
  • Per profile: the menus, keyboard shortcuts, likes, comments, and watch history all belong to the profile that made them.
  • Time limits count playback, not time spent browsing, and reset each day.
